Sky Safari - Space Exploration

Sky Safari uses a portable planetarium experience designed to make astronomy accessible and exciting for all children. Arunabh (Arun) Pratik and Kaylee Gordon are back to help us with Space Exploration. By inspiring curiosity in space science, this program provides access to astronomy education, and uniquely supports STEM efforts. A BenQ MH733 projector, a custom spherical mirror setup and a professional star dome, creates a mini-planetarium capable of displaying immersive full-dome astronomy shows. Children will be guided through tours of the night sky, space phenomena, and other various astronomy concepts. During this session, children will learn why it is so hard to travel and live in space. They will learn about NASA's missions and travel in space from the very beginning to the present day!

Abraham Lincoln’s Wit in Wartime: Humor, Leadership, and the Civil War

At the darkest hour of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln still found reason to try to cause others to laugh. His humor was more than amusement—it helped him endure extraordinary pressure, disarm opponents, connect with people, and communicate difficult truths. In this lively presentation, Sameer Somal explores Lincoln’s wit, storytelling, and remarkable ability to use humor as a tool of leadership during the nation’s greatest crisis. The session will be moderated by Thomas Legget. About Sameer Somal: Sameer Somal is an entrepreneur, expert witness, and Abraham Lincoln historian who writes and speaks regularly on Lincoln’s life, leadership, law career, and humor. He serves on the Board of the Abraham Lincoln Association, is active with the Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia and the Abraham Lincoln Long Nine Museum, and is the founder of Abraham Lincoln Scholars. Most recently, Somal co-founded The Abraham Lincoln Collection: Somal & Cicchetti Dedicated to American History, a private artifact collection furthering his work to proliferate the legacy of Mr. Lincoln. About Thomas Leggett: Thomas Leggett is an award-winning journalist, writer, editor, and independent Abraham Lincoln scholar. A member of the Abraham Lincoln Association and Lincoln Group of the District of Columbia, he researches and writes extensively on Lincoln’s legal career, leadership, technology, and the communications revolution of the nineteenth century. About Tracy Gordon: Tracy grew up in Mendham where her love for nature began in the woods and along the streams in her neighborhood. Amazing Feet Social Running Club - Walking Group

Join our 8:00 a.m. Saturday Morning Walking Group and Meet your Future Best Friends!! The walk is on a paved trail. You only need a smile, good conversation, a pair of tennis shoes, and an outfit suitable for the weather conditions. You should feel free to walk as long or short as you like. There is no specified distance. This is a great way to meet people, get some exercise, and enjoy nature. You can be a slow or fast walker. There is no requirement. We typically walk out and back on the same trail so you can turn around at any time. We also often go our for breakfast at Green Village Deli afterwards. That is typically around 10:00 a.m. You should know that Amazing Feet started as a running club but we are expanding to include walkers. You will see both in the parking lot. There are often runners that get injured that need to walk so we have many that do both. Please help them along as they will help you. Please join us.

There are runners and walkers of all paces from absolute beginners to marathoners. As a beginning runner, you may consider running a short distance, and then walking a short distance. Alternating between the two until you feel more comfortable. You will not be alone. There are many people just starting out This is a very social, supportive group. Our whole group is rooting for each other to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Sometime just showing up is achievement of a goal! We understand that. The goal is to have you enjoy yourself and begin to get into the sport. You do not have to ever have been a runner. Girl Scout Gold Award Project: Native Plant Garden and Free Little Library Seedling Exchange

Morristown Area Girl Scout Somya has planted a native plant garden on Early Street in Morristown and built a free little library for people to exchange native plant seeds as part of her Gold Award project. The garden will be open to the public on October 24 and October 25, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free seedlings will be distributed to the first 50 attendees, and all attendees are welcome to take home a seed packet from the library.

Dinosaur Adventure

Kemmerer Library-Harding Township · New Vernon

Field Paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka will take us on an expedition and show all the different skills that come together on a paleontological dig. The children will have a hands-on dig and experience the thrill of digging up a real Triceratops dinosaur bone. They will help construct a dinosaur on a large cut-out. The skull of a Triceratops will be on display, and the characteristics of this dinosaur will be explored. The Paleontologists will offer show and tell of rare fossils with a touch of magic. This fun and exciting adventure will feature an educational attraction, as the children view a mini-museum, showcasing photos and minerals from their dig in South Dakota. Help Us Share the Fun: Our free programs have limited seats and supplies. If your plans change, please cancel at least 24 hours ahead so another child can take your place. To make sure no spots go to waste, missing two registered events without canceling means your future registrations will be moved to the waitlist for two months.

Volunteer Work Session

Schiff Nature Preserve · Mendham

The Conservation and Stewardship Committee welcomes your involvement in helping to maintain Schiff's trails, open space, and buildings. Giving back to the local nature preserve that you enjoy on a regular basis can be very satisfying... Each work session provides community members a 2 hour opportunity to work side by side with Schiff staff and Board members in a variety of hands-on land stewardship projects. Depending on the season, we may be clearing trails, removing invasive species, planting native trees and shrubs, conducting building repairs, restoring fences and bridges, or raking out the Native Garden. Volunteers (16 and under with a parent) are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, bring sunscreen and bug spray as appropriate, and bring a beverage and snack in a backpack for hands free walking. Meet us at the Nature Center and bring garden or work gloves. Tools provided by Schiff. Volunteers are asked to sign a waiver, provide photo release, and may bring and use their own tools if they prefer. Please pre-register online so we can plan projects accordingly.

Truck or Treat & Halloween Costume Contest

On Sunday, October 25, 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., at Meadowood Park, Mendham Township Recreation and Mendham Township Elementary School's PTO will host a Trunk or Treat along with the Township's Annual Halloween Contest.
